  • Origin

HOW CASA COLONIAL GRAN CAFE CAME ABOUT

“We haven’t really been happy with the Italian coffee mixtures for many years now”, says Wolfgang Lettner, Casa Colonial’s chef. “They were too strong and too bitter. What’s more, we weren’t able to control the quality of the beans and the roast.

The solution: our own coffee that satisfies Casa Colonial’s high quality demands. Together with the dedicated owners of Cafes Meke, a small coffee roasting house in Ibiza, we tested beans from all over the world: from Peru, Ethiopia, Brazil. Different kinds were mixed together (blends), and different roasting processes were tried out - until finally the perfect coffee was discovered: Casa Colonial Gran Cafe.

  • Factors

WHAT MAKES CASA COLONIAL GRAN CAFÉ SO UNIQUE?

Three factors contribute to the exceptional quality of Casa Colonial Gran Café:

The location: Casa Colonial Gran Café is cultivated in the highlands of Brazil. Here, the coffee plant finds what it requires for first class quality: altitude, warmth and plenty of precipitation. The Arabica which comes from there is known for its low acidity; something that is regarded as unpleasant, especially in espresso.

The harvest: The berries for Casa Colonial Gran Café are harvested at the precise moment when they are ripe. Like this, they retain their characteristic, slightly caramel-like flavour.

The processing: During processing, unripe or overripe berries are sorted out and the beans are carefully exposed, stored for two months and then re-sorted once more.

  • Preparation

THIS IS HOW TO REALLY SAVOUR CASA COLONIAL GRAN CAFÉ

Shelf life: Our coffee is packed in whole beans. They retain the special aroma of Casa Colonial Gran Café until it flows into the cup. For this to remain so, you should consume the beans within three months, since after that time the aromatic substances are slowly lost.

Storage: Once opened, the packet should be kept cool, preferably in the refrigerator, and the beans should not be transferred to other containers.

Grinding: For the preparation, you need a coffee grinder. If you wish to prepare not only black coffee, but also espresso, cappuccino or latte macchiato, you should definitely opt for a mill with a burr grinder. It produces a coffee grind with a uniform grain size, thus also ensuring even extraction of the aromatic substances. Only grind the coffee directly before use.

Preparation: There are many methods of preparation, from brewing manually to fully automatic coffee machines. We will be happy to give you tips on how to get the best results with your equipment. Go ahead and ask us!
